SCORE: Another's Requiem (Mario & Luigi Partners In Time) www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCYkpZ…

It all started back in the 4th Pony Kombat New Blood Tournament. The many contestants that participated all had the same goal and that was to make it to the end and garner the most attention and put their skills to the test to prove that they were the best! Some of them, however, had a few secondary goals.

Advent Playwright, the True Blue Colt, joined the tournament as it was but another one of his life-changing journeys where he would put his body and mind to the ultimate test of skill, endurance, and appeal as well as make new friends and learn from them. But one objective that Advent always keeps his eyes and ears out for is the call for help from a pained soul.

For a long time, it seemed like Advent’s journey to the top would be without finding someone in need of help. That is, until he sees the last match of Round 1 in which a certain mare with a rather unique look and problem about her appears. The mare’s name is…well…actually, no one knows what her name is. Her biography said she was known as “The Nameless Queen”.

The second that Advent saw her, he knew something was wrong with her. She perpetually wore a frown as if something was causing her great pain and she couldn’t escape from it. Advent thought at first that maybe it was just because of her physical condition and she was just unlucky enough to come into contact with cordycep spores and unfortunately mutated as a result, but there was much more to it than just that.

Advent looked at her bio and was shocked to see that the cordyceps were demonic in nature. This immediately sparked something in Advent’s head as he is familiar with the prospect of fighting demons. Advent has always been compassionate and merciful towards mortals and loyal and loving towards the divine and righteous, but when it came to the demonic, especially when they do harm to the mortals and speak or act out against the divine, then another side of Advent surfaces.

The True Blue Colt decides to keep an eye on The Nameless Queen to see if he can help her in any way. After her initial defeat in the first round, she felt it best to just leave so nopony would have to see her as a grotesque undead monstrosity as she feared that to be how everyone saw her. Advent stayed behind to finish his run through the tournament with his friends but he kept The Nameless Queen in the back of his mind, knowing that he would have to meet her again to try and help her. He was NOT about to let another soul be taken by Tartarus’ monsters. Advent wished to save her.

In the end, Advent was able to make a few good friends, including the other contestants that he faced and defeated on his way to the top and was even able to become the champion of the 4th tournament…even though he failed to defeat the reigning champion. This didn’t discourage him, however. He picked himself back up, said his good-byes to his new friends, and returned to his adventuring with his beloved fiancé, Dream Vania… However, there was still one thing left to do.

Advent Playwright and Dream Vania travelled to the Everfree Forest to find the place where The Nameless Queen resides along with the rest of her subjects, the Cordycep Ponies of Trenzalore. Dream Vania stayed at the entrance, knowing that this was something that Advent wanted to do himself, hoping to help a friend out. He entered the forest alone to confront this problem personally. He arrived in Trenzalore and treaded carefully so that he wouldn’t attract too much attention. Advent looked around him to see the many ponies taken over by these demonic fungal parasites and felt pity for them.

As it were, the Cordyceps of Trenzalore were able to overtake almost any living being and transform their entire bodies to become suitable hosts for them. This would include the sickening appearances and mushroom caps appearing all over their bodies and even on their insides, clogging some of their body functions such as breathing, eating, talking, etc. Without the ability to talk, normal ponies couldn’t understand them, not that they would even give them the time of day without panicking and running away, thinking of them as monsters. Advent, however, was not a normal pony.

Through training with his old master, Zetarr, Advent had unlocked the ability to listen to the voices of the soul, as he calls it. He was able to communicate with the queen telepathically to let her know that he was there to help them for he knew what the cordyceps were doing to them there. They were not only putting them all in a state of constant pain and isolating them from the world, but they were also imprisoning them in the mortal world.

The ponies there were of unknown age for they didn’t even remember when they were mutated and isolated. Their bodies had become immortal and put into a permanent state of agony, their souls were trapped in their bodies, unable to travel to the next world, and their quality of life had already long since turned for the worst and disappeared. They were all being tormented by these demon fungi and they couldn’t even leave the forest out of fear that they would spread the contaminants to others.

Advent acknowledged their pain and realized something had to be done… He’s faced many monsters in his journeys and slain demons before…but when it came to the innocent, he wouldn’t ever THINK of harming them… Advent was not only feeling the heartache from knowing the kind of suffering they were going through, but also feeling conflicted since these were innocent people that he would have to perform this next act to…for he knew there was only one way to save them…and that was to put them out of their misery.

Now Advent talks with The Nameless Queen when he manages to reach out to her with the promise to save her and her people. With little resistance and great curiosity, her subjects hold back on trying to stop him from approaching her. After Advent convinces her that he understands her pain and wishes to help, he and the queen go for a little walk outside the main area and into a grove that sits on a cliff overlooking the settlement below. With the two looking down to the ponies, the queen sends out a signal with her own telepathy that the golden mushroom on her head grants her.

“My fellow ponies of Trenzalore! I call upon you all. Come out and let me see everypony once more!”

Advent waits for every single pony to appear and the queen quickly counts every one of them to verify that everypony is indeed present. She then asks Advent what his plan is…and is shocked by his answer. Advent looks to the queen with tears coming from his eyes as he tries to hold back crying. He looks her in the eyes and bows his head with his mane covering them in shade until he looks back up to give her his straight answer.

“I’m so sorry… You…your people… You don’t deserve this… I’m sorry…but the only way to save you… is to purge you all. Every single one…”

The queen is stunned in amazement at both the fact that someone finally came to save them…but at the same time in fear that someone came here to end both hers and everypony else’s lives. When she receives a telepathic signal from her people, wondering what this was all about, the queen merely responded with saying that “Everything will be alright…” She did not aim to stop Advent. Advent took a deep breath and apologized once more before the queen bowed her head to him. Surprised, Advent asked her if she was okay with all of this or if she would rather they stay as they are.

The Nameless Queen moved her messed up mouth’s lips to form a smile…the first smile she has been able to make in who knows how long. Advent had just received the queen’s blessing to eradicate the cordyceps. She concluded in saying that her people had wanted nothing more than salvation. Their lives were over a long time ago and there was no taking it back. It was not their fault, but the reality of the situation was undeniable. In order to be saved, they had to die. They all accepted that fact, but couldn’t kill themselves, even if they wanted to since their cordyceps wouldn’t let them.

Advent takes these factors to heart as he tearfully pulls out the tool that will bring about their salvation. He asks them all to pray together as he holds up a bottle of Holy Water with dark clouds beginning to roll in from around the sky and the last beam of light from above centering in on the cliff itself that Advent and The Nameless Queen stand on. The beam of light thins out with the clouds fully covering the hole in the sky and shrouding the entire forest in darkness with the wind blowing.

Advent’s cape and mane flow to his side along with the queen’s sparkling mane as the wind blows constantly. Advent’s tears stop as he takes a deep breath and focuses on the bottle of water he holds. His equipment begins to glow along with the outline of the bottle and the water itself. He then pours out all the Holy Water to the ground in a circle around him and smashes the bottle to the ground. He then takes his two front hooves to move in a way that draws a circle and a holy cross in front of him. His body rises to the air and levitates as a beam of light and blue fire rises to the sky, spiraling around him and reaching into the clouds. A large, golden, ethereal cross appears behind Advent and shines its light.

“Item Crash! HYDRO STORM!!!”

Upon screaming these words, Advent unleashes his power that he channeled through the bottle to create a maelstrom of Holy Water rain from the heavens above that falls down onto the settlement in the forest. Every single Cordycep Pony begins to scream in agony as their bodies begin to burn upon contact with the rain. The Nameless Queen and Advent both look down to them and already have tears coming from their eyes once more. The rain itself then reaches the queen and she too begins to feel the burn. Advent forces himself to watch and listen to it all so that he can fully understand and appreciate what these ponies had to go through and then prays for them all to be done soon.

His prayers are soon answered when he sees their bodies engulfed in blue flames and many of them go silent. The mushrooms on them begin to vanish without a trace, spores included. His heartache is still lingering and tears are still coming from him, but he at least has one thing that soothes him. The many souls of the ponies that were trapped begin to float out of their bodies and into the air. Advent looks to them feels a sudden chill envelop him. The souls look to themselves and each other and rejoice. They are finally free from their prisons after so long thanks to the True Blue Colt. They all go to Advent and thank him personally before ascending to the sky and vanishing in their own lights.

Advent looks up to them all as they go and his sorrowful face slowly turns to a relieved smile…but even though he was able to save them, the battle against the Trenzalore Cordyceps was not over. The Nameless Queen’s body was much stronger than the others and thus, she is still trapped. To make matters worse, she is no longer in control of her own body. Advent lowers back down to the ground with the rain still falling and the queen’s body turns to him in a challenging manner. It is then that Advent hears a second voice speaking to him.

An angry-sounding female voice speaks out against Advent and harshly expresses her hatred for him and what he did to her cordycep children. The more familiar voice is crying in pain while trying to regain control. Advent quickly realizes that the golden mushroom on her head had a mind of its own and has taken full control of the queen’s body to try and fight back. The Hydro Storm itself wasn’t enough. As long as the golden mushroom was still attached to the mare’s head, she was still trapped and under control. Advent knew this wouldn’t be easy so he takes out his main weapon, the Cane of Grand Cross!

The blue cane glowed in his hooves as Advent readied himself to face the queen herself. He apologizes to the mare for what he has to do, but she assures him that it’s alright. She happily accepts the embrace of death if it means freeing herself from her prison. Advent thinks of how the others all thanked him for saving them even though he felt like he just committed mass genocide. In this same vein, he is being thanked for his help even though he feels the pain in his heart for what he has to do to save her.

Advent musters up all of his strength to face the queen in one final battle on the high grove. The two attack each other with everything they’ve got as the rain continues to fall. Advent uses all of his skills and tools to try and dismember the source of the problem, the golden mushroom sticking out of The Nameless Queen’s head. The Nameless Queen however is armed with her manipulation over spores and plants. Throughout the battle, the mare’s voice reaches to Advent, cheering him on with an angelic-sound. This helps lift Advent’s spirits as it reminds him of why he does this sort of thing.

“I… I don’t understand! Why aren’t my spores affecting you?!”, the queen asks and Advent responds. "You should have become a host by now!"

“Because the Holy Father in Heaven is with me! I’ve already drank my ‘Pure Heart’ Tea from boiled Holy Water! It protects me from Tartarus’ tricks! You have no chance against me, demon!”, Advent proclaims as he hears many more voices. "Their cries... They're finally gone. They've been replaced by a beautiful choir..." His eyes tear up as his mouth forms a calm smile. "The time has come for you to join them!"

Fighting and destroying abominations like these is just one of those things that he does. He remembers that he’s doing this to save a soul that has been lost from Heaven for an unmeasured amount of time and now the time has finally come. He wipes the tears from his eyes and regains a certain glow in them. A shining cross appears on the back of his cape and in both of his eyes while the rest of his body glows to match it while he and the queen have one last dance together with the mare providing them with a song that the rest of the freed souls from Heaven play.

“Thank you, everypony… Heaven is your home now… And it will be your destination soon as well, but first...we must let what must be done…be done… This ends now! May you enjoy the loving eternity you deserve…and may Lucifer’s pizza toppings burn in Tartarus where they belong!!! HALLELUJAH!!!”

Advent’s last words are paired with his final attack! He lunges forward and takes his cane straight to the golden cordycep by the stem and slashes it right off horizontally, bringing it to the ground and the battle to its true end. The body itself instantly comes into a state of shock and begins to lose balance as Advent takes off his heavy gear to lighten his physical load and impales his cane into the ground next to him and looks back to the mare’s body as it collapses and closes its eyes.

Advent slowly walks to her and lowers down to his knees and cries once more. His crying is halted, however, when the familiar voice of the mare speaks to him once more. Advent looks up to see a white light appear from the lifeless mare’s body. Her soul takes form and looks to Advent with a smile. She asks Advent to raise his chin up and smile for her. She thanks him for saving all of her people and herself. After a tearful and heartwarming good-bye, the mare waves to Advent and vanishes into her own light as she ascends to Heaven. Advent lets the rest of his tears fall until the rain subsides, but calmly. There is nothing for him to be sad over anymore.

Speaking a quiet prayer, Advent stands up and lets the Everfree Forest itself take what is left of the ponies and returns their bodies to the soil. The clouds soon would clear out and a rainbow would appear over what used to be Trenzalore. Advent leaves and returns to the forest entrance to rejoin Dream Vania with a fulfilled task and a stronger heart. She holds him close in her embrace and the two walk away from the Everfree Forest to find themselves a new adventure. Advent has gained much experience from this endeavor and will never forget this day.

“Great Father in Heaven… I thank you for giving me this strength to help others. May they find peace with you in your kingdom. With great love and faith, we thank you. Hallelujah, amen.”
